Have you ever wondered who was on the other end of that phone call or e-mail? Here’s a chance for you to meet your regional underwriter.
Name: Lisa Turner
Job Title: Senior Underwriter | Where I’m from: When my husband and I got married, we moved to Brooklin, until then, I grew up in Scarborough | Start Date: February 1999
What do you like most about being an Underwriter?
I love being an underwriter for various reasons. The team I work with is amazing, my manager is fantastic, and I love helping and talking to the Brokers in the Atlantic. For over 15 years, I’ve underwritten for some of the largest brokerages in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. My favourite time of the year is when we travel to visit them. It’s lovely meeting people in person, especially since we speak daily on the phone. I enjoy building these relationships, and I’ve worked with them for so long that I consider many of them friends rather than colleagues.
Professional background: For most of my career, I have worked in insurance in various capacities. At Allstate, I had roles in central processing, accounting and market support. I also sold insurance for CIBC. When I moved to Brooklin, I had the opportunity to join Pembridge, and I jumped at the chance. I started as a Junior Underwriter, moved onto Intermediate, and I have been a Senior Underwriter for 17 years working for the different regions.
Education or any other credentials: I completed my CIP in 2011.
Accomplishments: In 2015, I received the Employee Excellence Award.
Interesting facts: My husband and I love cooking, going for walks, yoga, and antique shopping. I like stripping old furniture and/or creating a new piece from an old article. I also have two children, Lauren, 17, and 15-year-old Steven, who I adore.
